Welcome to Wide Q – A blog about Church Sound
What is Wide Q?
When you are working with a parametric equalizer it is common practice to cut narrow or tight Q and boost wide. I am hoping you, as a volunteer church sound tech will find the content of this blog helpful and boost your skills and understanding of the art of sound re-enforcement. This will ensure the message of you church is well heard by the congregation and/or listeners. (1 Corinthians 14:7, 8)

What is Q?
“Q” in simple terms is the bandwidth or frequency range of the filter that either cuts or boosts levels.
I am hoping that like the name suggests, to cover a wide range of subjects related to church sound systems. Some of the first posts will include topics such as:
What to check when hiring a consultant.
Mic placements with sound clips to show the differences.
Mic pickup patterns – why they are what they are.
The Sound team’s role with the worship team, pastors and other teachers.
The importance of investing in the sound system and the team running sound.
Please note – I won’t be bashing any brand or promoting one brand over another.
I will be endeavouring to upload a new post every 1-2 weeks.
Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played? For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle? 1 Corinthians 14:7,8
